LABOR, EMPLOYMENT & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AGENDA:

It is critical that Connecticut put a greater focus on restructuring education to create a workforce with the necessary skills for our economy. Manufacturing and the trades should be promoted as attractive and viable career choices for highly competent individuals. Just as important are labor costs and housing opportunities.

Action Needed:

  • Expand incumbent worker education and training programs through Workforce Investment Boards.
  • Create policy and provide funding for programs at colleges, trade schools and universities to meet business needs.
  • Review and re-design current ‘affordable housing’ policies to achieve the intended objectives, including housing opportunities close to employment while maintaining community physical and environmental integrity.
  • Reject increases in mandated labor costs such as workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation or family and medical leave.
