EDUCATION AGENDA:

We view education, from pre-kindergarten to vocational to professional degree programs, as an important way to enhance the viability and business climate of the town, the region and the state. It is of concern therefore that the cost of higher education is out of reach for most Americans and Connecticut is the sixth leading exporter of college graduates to other states.  We support legislation with strategies to make all levels of education accessible, to retain our graduates, and to prepare our workforce to be successful contributors to our economy.

Action Needed:

• Revise the Education Cost Sharing (ECS) formula so that no town receives less than $1,000 per student, indexed to inflation.

• Develop public policy to help CT residents with the costs of post-secondary education.
